Bannerbear and APITemplate.io both generate images from templates over an API and no-code tools, but they lean different ways. Bannerbear is a marketing automation platform: image and video templates, forms, workflows, 50+ integrations and an MCP server for AI assistants. APITemplate.io is about documents as much as images: PDFs from HTML templates and images from a drag-and-drop editor share one plan, it has a free plan, and it is cheaper per render at every level we compared.
We make Shareglint, a third tool in this market, so we are not neutral. Every number below is from the vendors' own pages, read on 2026-11-04 (MCP checked 2026-11-06); each section starts with what the product does well, and we say where we fit at the end.

Bannerbear: images, video and workflows
What it does well. A mature visual editor and template library, more than 50 integrations, built-in forms and workflows for people who never touch an API, video and animation, an official MCP server, and Instant URLs (images generated from a URL) from the Scale plan. For a marketing team producing social graphics and short videos, that breadth is the point.
Where it is weaker. It is the more expensive of the two per image at every level we compared, it has no free monthly plan after the trial, and when credits run out, requests are refused. Documents are not its focus.
Pick Bannerbear if you need video, forms and workflows, or an AI assistant working through MCP. Our page: Bannerbear alternative.
APITemplate.io: images and documents on one plan
What it does well. If you produce invoices, certificates, reports or tickets as PDFs alongside social images, APITemplate.io covers both on the same credits, with PDFs designed in HTML. It is cheaper per render, has a free plan of 50 renders a month, and connects to Zapier, Make, n8n and Airtable on every plan, the free one included.
Where it is weaker. Image templates are drag and drop (HTML is offered for PDFs), there is no official MCP server that we could find, video is not part of the plans compared here, and pay-as-you-go beyond the plan is only for enterprise customers, by email.
Pick APITemplate.io if PDF documents are a big part of what you generate, or you want the lower price and a free tier with integrations. Our page: APITemplate.io alternative.
What a month costs at three volumes
Taking each vendor's cheapest plan that covers the volume, on monthly billing, by the pricing pages read on 2026-11-04:
- 1,000 renders a month: Bannerbear $49 (Automate). APITemplate.io $35 (Starter, 1,500) — or nothing for the first 50 on its free plan.
- 5,000 a month: Bannerbear $149 (Scale, 10,000). APITemplate.io $89 (Standard, 9,000).
- 20,000 a month: Bannerbear $299 (Enterprise, 50,000), since Scale stops at 10,000 and extra requests are refused. APITemplate.io $179 (Enterprise, 20,000).
APITemplate.io's yearly billing takes up to a fifth off; Bannerbear's page shows no yearly price. Remember that the two count differently: an APITemplate.io credit is one image or one PDF, while Bannerbear multiplies one image by the number of formats and the scale you request.
The questions that decide it
- Images only, or documents too? Multi-page PDFs from HTML → APITemplate.io. Images and video → Bannerbear.
- Who runs it? Marketers in forms and workflows → Bannerbear. A no-code builder in Zapier or Airtable → either.
- Do you want an AI assistant to drive it? Bannerbear has an official MCP server; APITemplate.io does not, as far as we found.
- Budget. APITemplate.io costs less per render at every level we compared; check both pages at your own volume.
A third option for developers
If your image templates are HTML and CSS, Shareglint renders them in real Chrome — also one of 153 built-in templates, or a simple visual editor. Starter is $9 a month for 2,000 images (about $4.50 per 1,000), Pro $29 for 10,000, and the Free plan gives 100 images a month with a watermark. Templates render as one-page PDFs too (PDF generation), every template in 6 sizes from one request, and an official MCP server connects Claude, ChatGPT and coding agents.
What we do not do, compared with both: no multi-page PDF documents (APITemplate.io's strength), no video beyond GIF and MP4 clips of up to 5 seconds, no forms or workflow builder, and our no-code integrations are HTTP recipes (integrations) rather than native apps. More vendors: Bannerbear vs Placid, best OG image API.
