The key social media image sizes for 2026, from the platforms' own documentation: an Instagram feed photo is 1080 pixels wide and 566 to 1440 pixels tall (1.91:1 to 3:4), Meta ads for Stories and Reels are 9:16 at 1440×2560, a LinkedIn background photo is 1584×396, an X header is 1500×500, a YouTube banner is at least 2048×1152, a Pinterest Pin is 1000×1500, and a link preview image (og:image) is 1200×630. Every number links to the platform page we read it on (checked 2026-11-04). Where a platform publishes nothing, we say "does not say" rather than copy a number from a blog.
Two caveats. Some numbers come from ad specifications, marked "ads": for organic posts they are the best official guidance, not a promise of identical display. And platforms change numbers without notice: Meta now recommends 1440×2560 for Stories and Reels ads, not the 1080×1920 repeated on many blogs, and Instagram allows a vertical 3:4 in the feed, not just 4:5.
Link preview (og:image) on every platform
A pasted link shows the og:image image. One 1200×630 pixel file (1.91:1), JPEG or PNG under 600 KB, meets every published requirement. Details, more platforms (WhatsApp, iMessage, Slack, Discord, Telegram, Mastodon) and an in-browser image checker are on the OG image size page.

The X cards docs are gone from developer.x.com (old addresses redirect to the general docs.x.com page), so we cite Internet Archive copies. Preview missing or stale? See how to fix and refresh a link preview; setting the tags is covered in what is an Open Graph image.

For a profile picture or cover with a logo or text, Meta suggests PNG. The help article gives no event image size; the only dimensions on facebook.com (1200×628, alongside 1920×1005) are a Meta AI summary of user posts, not a specification.
| Item | Size according to Meta | Source |

| Feed photo | 320–1080 px wide kept as is if the ratio is between 1.91:1 and 3:4 (1080 px wide, 566–1440 px tall); other ratios are cropped; smaller ones enlarged to 320 px, larger scaled to 1080 px | Instagram Help |

| Reels (ads) | 9:16, 1440×2560 | Meta Ads Guide |
Instagram's Help Center says nothing about link preview images. A vertical 3:4 photo (1080×1440) is now the tallest frame Instagram leaves uncropped; the older 4:5 (1080×1350) still fits.
| Item | Size according to LinkedIn | Source |

| Article cover image | optimal 1920×1080, cropped to 16:9; JPEG, JPG, PNG, WEBP, no GIFs | LinkedIn Help |

Beware stale numbers: LinkedIn's table (updated in 2026) gives the Company Page cover as 1512×256 — if you see another size, check the article's date. For ads we cite the newer of LinkedIn's two pages (they differ on the vertical image maximum).

|---|---|---|
| Profile photo | at least 20×20; no recommended size given | TikTok Help |
| Video (organic) | Help Center does not say; via the API: 360 to 4096 px on each side, up to 4 GB | TikTok for Developers |

| Image carousel (ads) | 1200×628, 640×640 or 720×1280; 2 to 35 images | TikTok Ads (ads) |
TikTok publishes no recommended video size for regular posts — the popular "1080×1920" is a good full-screen 9:16 choice, but not a number from its documentation.
YouTube
| Item | Size according to YouTube | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Video thumbnail | 3840×2160, at least 640 px wide; 16:9 ratio | YouTube Help |
| Shorts thumbnail | 2160×3840, at least 640 px tall; 9:16 ratio | YouTube Help |

| Video watermark | at least 150×150, a square under 1 MB | YouTube Help |
| Post image | up to 16 MB; JPG, PNG, GIF or WEBP; 1:1 suggested | YouTube Help |
The often-repeated "1280×720 and 2 MB" is not what YouTube's help page says today: it lists 3840×2160, and 2 MB applies only to phone uploads. A 1280×720 thumbnail still passes (over 640 px wide, 16:9). Vertical videos with a 16:9 thumbnail get an automatic 4:5 one on the home page.
| Item | Size according to Pinterest | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Pin (image) | recommended 2:3, 1000×1500; taller than 2:3 may be cut off; PNG or JPEG; up to 20 MB from a computer, 32 MB in the app | Pinterest Help |
| Profile picture | does not say | Pinterest Help |

The Pin spec sits on the ads page, but Pinterest says the format also serves organic reach — it is the only official Pin size.
How to make images in every size at once
Don't crop one design into six formats by hand. In Shareglint any template from the gallery, or your own HTML and CSS (HTML to image), can be rendered in ready-made sizes: og 1200×630, square 1080×1080, portrait 1080×1350, story 1080×1920, pinterest 1000×1500, youtube 1280×720 — one template, every size. The sizes parameter returns several files from one request, and a size that already exists costs no quota:
curl -X POST "https://shareglint.com/v1/images?wait=true" \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $OG_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{
"template": "blog-og",
"modifications": { "title": "New autumn 2026 collection" },
"sizes": ["og", "square", "portrait", "story", "pinterest"]
}'
Against the tables above: og (1200×630) meets the link preview minimums; portrait (1080×1350, 4:5) fits Instagram's 1.91:1 to 3:4 range; story (1080×1920) is the 9:16 Meta and TikTok want for stories and vertical ads, though Meta recommends 1440×2560 for ads; pinterest (1000×1500) is exactly Pinterest's recommendation; youtube (1280×720) clears the 640 px minimum width; PNG, JPEG or WebP comes out at twice the template size, 2560×1440 — still below the 3840×2160 YouTube now lists. The Free plan includes 100 images a month, paid plans start at $9 a month (pricing); the calls are described in the API documentation.
Where these numbers come from, and why so many say "does not say"
We read every value on 2026-11-04 on the platforms' own help, ads and documentation pages — no blogs, aggregators or AI summaries. When a platform publishes nothing (Instagram profile picture, Facebook event cover, TikTok video), we say so. A blog number can be a sensible hint, but you cannot tell its origin or age — several such "known facts" could not be confirmed at the source.
If a platform's page shows a different number, trust the platform — and tell us, we will fix the table. The link preview table is updated together with the OG image size page; check your own page's preview with the free OG Checker.
