# Quote cards from your content: articles, talks, podcasts and customers

> Turn the best lines of articles, talks, episodes and customer reviews into branded quote cards in every social size, one at a time or a whole archive.

Quote cards are the most reused format in content marketing: a sentence from an article, a speaker's line from a conference, the best minute of a podcast episode, a customer's words. Each card is the same design with a new quote, author and photo — which makes it a template job. With Shareglint you keep your quote layout as a template and render cards from wherever the quotes already live: a CMS field, a spreadsheet of talk highlights, show notes, a review export.

## Templates for quotes

| Template | Best for | Fields |
|---|---|---|
| `quote-og` | Article and talk quotes, also as an article's link preview | quote, author, role, site, photo |
| `editorial-quote` | Newsrooms and magazines: quote with publication, section and date | quote, author, role, publication, section, date, site, photo |
| `podcast-quote` | A line from an episode, with the timestamp | quote, show, episode, guest, timestamp, site, cover |
| `lyric-card` | Song lyrics and poetry, with cover art | lines, song, artist, cover |
| `testimonial-stars` | Customer quotes with a star rating | quote, rating, rating label, name, role, company, site, avatar |

All of them render in every size preset (og 1200×630, square 1080×1080, portrait 1080×1350, story 1080×1920, pinterest 1000×1500, youtube 1280×720) and take `accent` and `theme`. See them side by side on the [quote templates page](https://shareglint.com/en/templates/format/quotes).

## One quote, every size

```bash
curl -X POST "https://shareglint.com/v1/images?wait=true" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer sk_live_..." \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{
    "template": "quote-og",
    "sizes": ["square", "portrait", "story"],
    "format": "jpeg",
    "modifications": {
      "quote": "Ship the boring version first. The clever one can wait for users.",
      "author": "Ana Ruiz",
      "role": "CTO, Northwind",
      "photo": "https://cdn.example.com/people/ana.jpg"
    }
  }'
```

The square card goes to LinkedIn and the feed, the 4:5 to Instagram, the 9:16 to stories. JPEG is the right format when a tool will post to Instagram, because its publishing API accepts only JPEG ([Meta for Developers](https://developers.facebook.com/documentation/instagram-platform/content-publishing); more in [Instagram posts](https://shareglint.com/en/use-cases/instagram-posts)). The same values again return the same file at no cost.

## Where the quotes come from

**Articles.** Many CMSs let editors mark a pull quote. Add the pull quote, the author and the article URL to a publish webhook, and the card is ready when the article is. On a static site, a build step can render one card per post from front matter.

**Talks and events.** After a conference, collect the best line from each talk in a spreadsheet — speaker, title, photo — and send it as a batch: one card per talk, all of them in one ZIP. Rows per batch by plan: Free 50, Starter 500, Pro 1,000, Scale 2,000, Business 5,000. The [event graphics](https://shareglint.com/en/use-cases/event-graphics) page covers speaker cards for before the event.

**Podcasts.** A line per episode with its timestamp, rendered with `podcast-quote`, makes a release-week post that sends people to the right minute ([podcasts](https://shareglint.com/en/for/podcasts)).

**Customers.** Testimonials from your review platform's export, with the star rating, become `testimonial-stars` cards ([review images](https://shareglint.com/en/use-cases/review-images)).

**An AI assistant.** Connected through the [MCP server](https://shareglint.com/en/mcp-server), Claude or ChatGPT can pick five quotable lines from a transcript you paste and render them as square cards — you approve the lines, it makes the images.

## Good quote cards

- **Short beats complete.** A card is read in a second or two. One or two sentences; cut, do not shrink.
- **Attribution matters.** Name, role and a recognisable photo make a quote credible. For customers, use what they agreed to — some prefer first name and company only.
- **Keep the words exact.** Do not "improve" a quote. If you shorten it, use an ellipsis and keep the meaning.
- **One design per series.** A consistent template makes a quote series recognisable in the feed; vary the `accent` per campaign rather than the layout.
- **Typography.** Quotes are type-heavy: PNG keeps edges crisp for flat backgrounds, JPEG at a higher `quality` is fine for photo backgrounds.

## A quote series in a week

A practical rhythm for a content team: every Monday, an editor picks five lines from last week's articles, talks or episodes and adds them to a sheet with the author, role and photo URL. A batch renders the five cards in the square and story sizes, and the social scheduler spreads them over the week. Because the same values return the same files, adding a sixth line on Wednesday and running the batch again renders only the new card. Over a quarter, that is a consistent, recognisable series without a single design file — and a spreadsheet that doubles as the archive of what you posted.

## Quotes as link previews

A quote card also makes a strong `og:image` for an interview or opinion piece: the quote is the most shareable thing on the page. Put a signed URL with the article's pull quote into the page's `og:image`, and every share shows the quote instead of a generic photo ([signed image URLs](https://shareglint.com/en/guides/signed-image-urls)).

## Cost

One render per card and size; repeats are free. A weekly quote series in three sizes is about 13 renders a month; a conference recap with 40 talks in two sizes is 80, once. The Free plan's 100 renders carry a watermark; Starter is $9 a month for 2,000 renders ([pricing](https://shareglint.com/en/pricing)).

## What it does not do

- It does not choose the quotes or check them; the text on the card is the text you send.
- It does not post to social networks; your scheduler does that with the image URLs.
- It does not generate portraits; photos come from URLs you provide.

For the rules on reusing other people's words, the US Copyright Office's [fair use index](https://www.copyright.gov/fair-use/) is a starting point; outside the US, local law applies, and asking permission is the simple way to avoid the question. For quotes from public figures used in advertising, publicity rights may apply too — check before running quote cards as ads.

## FAQ

### How do I make quote images automatically?

Keep a quote template with your brand colour and logo, and send each quote with its author, role and photo: one request per quote, or a CSV batch for a list. Each card comes back as a URL in every social size you ask for.

### What happens with long quotes?

The built-in quote templates shrink the text to fit its box, so a one-line quote and a five-line quote both stay inside the card. For very long passages, cut the quote rather than let the type get small — a card is read at a glance.

### Can I use quotes from other people?

Quoting is common, but rights and expectations differ: ask speakers and customers before you turn their words into marketing, credit them, and do not change what they said. The template prints exactly what you send.

### Which sizes do quote cards need?

Square or 4:5 portrait for feeds, 9:16 for stories, 1.91:1 when the card is an article's link preview. One request with sizes returns all of them from the same template.
